The 2026 BMW has arrived with a host of new updates, and we have plenty to discuss.

Starting with the looks, BMW has made some noticeable improvements to the front end. The new design is more aggressive and purposeful, moving away from the slightly goofy aesthetic of the previous model. While the front grille remains a bit polarizing, the overall exterior is a step up. The simplistic headlights add to the refined appeal.

The rear end and side profile remain largely unchanged, but the new wheel designs are a welcome addition. Overall, BMW has taken a more refined approach to the exterior while maintaining its bold design language.

One of the biggest changes in the lineup is the introduction of an all-new entry-level model—the xDrive 45, which starts at approximately $75,000. This addition makes BMW’s EV lineup more accessible.

The previous entry-level model, the xDrive 50, has been renamed and upgraded to xDrive 60 for the 2026 model year, starting at $88,150. Meanwhile, the previous top-tier M60 model has been rebranded as the M70, with a starting price of $111,500.

Note: Be sure to add a $1,175 destination charge to all listed prices. Also, BMW mistakenly labeled these as 2025 prices in their official press release, but rest assured, these are for the 2026 model year.

xDrive 45

The new entry-level xDrive 45 model features all-wheel drive and is a pure EV. It delivers 422 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, which is more than sufficient for the average family. BMW claims it can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds, with an estimated 312-mile range.

xDrive 60

The mid-tier xDrive 60 has received a power boost of 20 additional horsepower, bringing it to 536 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque. It now offers 340 miles of range, which is 31 miles more than last year. The 0 to 60 mph time is an impressive 4.4 seconds.

M70 xDrive

At the top of the range, the new M70 xDrive delivers even more power, with a maximum output of 650 horsepower and 811 lb-ft of torque when using Sport Mode and Launch Control. Under normal conditions, it produces 570 horsepower and 749 lb-ft of torque. This powerhouse can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, and its range has increased to 302 miles, which is 17 miles more than the previous M60 model.

Battery and Charging Improvements

BMW has made several enhancements to the battery pack, resulting in improved power and range. Cold weather performance and charging efficiency have also been refined. However, even with a DC fast charger, going from 10% to 80% charge still takes around 35 minutes, which is quite slow compared to competitors like Genesis, which can achieve similar results in just 17–18 minutes.

One convenient improvement is that you no longer need to use a smartphone app to start charging at public stations—simply plug in, and charging begins immediately.

The introduction of the xDrive 45 is a game-changer. Priced $10,000 less than the previous entry-level xDrive 50, it offers ample power for most buyers. The more affordable price point should also translate into better lease programs, making it an attractive option for families.
