First teased as a camouflage-clad prototype at the Tokyo Auto Salon and spied lapping Fuji Speedway, this upcoming variant serves as a high-octane send-off for the internal combustion FL5 generation before emissions mandates force broad hybridization across Honda’s lineup.
Motorsport Hardware: What the Rumors Suggest
Rather than a cosmetic tape-and-stripe package, reports from Japanese outlets like Response and Car Watch point toward substantive racing hardware filtered straight from Honda’s Super Taikyu and Super GT programs:
- Super Taikyu Engine DNA: While standard FL5 models produce 315 hp (326 hp in Japan), the HRC edition is rumored to borrow internal components and intake architecture from the HRC-K20C endurance racing motor. Revised ECU maps and enhanced cooling could nudge output closer to 330 hp without sacrificing reliability.
- Functional Thermal & Aero Upgrades: Prototype sightings reveal dual-canard front aero “flics,” vented front fenders to relieve wheel-well pressure, an enlarged rear diffuser, and deeper wing endplates. Behind the lower intake sits an oversized HRC-stamped intercooler/radiator setup.
