It is difficult to believe, but the Acura Integra has been on the road for almost 40 years. Originally produced by Honda for Japan in 1985, it first arrived in North America a year later, in 1986, when it was used as one of the launch offerings for the just-formed Acura brand. Acura’s debut in the North American market was a landmark event, as it was the first Japanese premium automaker, with the Integra and the Legend being the lead models.
The Integra’s Journey
After more than a decade of enjoying success, the Integra was retired in 2001. Its replacement, the Acura RSX, had the limelight for the following four years, but fans never really abandoned the Integra legacy.
In 2023, Acura made its comeback in a big way by resurrecting the Integra nameplate. Now, with the 2026 model year, the Integra receives a mid-cycle facelift, further enhancing its sporty and sophisticated package.
Performance build
Sport compact enthusiasts will be glad to hear that the Integra still has a lot of fun to offer in terms of driving, particularly with the optional six-speed manual transmission. It’s a much more rewarding option than the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) also available on the model range. The heart of the Integra is a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, with 200 horsepower.
This powertrain delivers a balance of efficiency and performance, although the Type S variant delivers even more thrill with its heightened performance.
The manual transmission is highly commendable, providing driving enthusiasts with the ability to have complete control over the performance of the vehicle, making the Integra an authentic driver’s car.
New New Features in 2026
The 2026 model year sees some thrilling changes for the Integra. For those who love distinctive looks, Acura now offers new colors: Double Apex Blue Pearl, Solar Silver Metallic, and Urban Gray Pearl.
When you opt for either Double Apex Blue or Performance Red Pearl, the grille is color-matched to the body. Yet, for those who want slightly more contrast, an available gloss black grille is an option on these colors and is standard on all other colors.
Acura also brings an intimidating new face to the A-Spec trims with a body kit that features black side spoilers at the bottom of the front fascia, a new side sill garnish, and svelte 18-inch black wheels. These outside upgrades promote the sportiness of the Integra, giving it a more dynamic presence on the road.
Interior Enhancements
Inside, the 2026 Integra still impresses with its sophistication and updated tech. The 7-inch screen found on cheaper models is no more. Now, all Integras feature a 9-inch screen, not just bigger, but also fitted with a quicker processor to guarantee seamless use and no lag.
This display also features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing for more convenient connectivity on the move than ever before. A wireless charging pad is now also included, adding another layer of convenience for drivers and passengers alike.
For owners who choose the A-Spec trim, the interior receives a few more premium touches. Orchid interior is available with blue micro suede inserts to introduce a touch of elegance, and Ebony interior has yellow stitching on the seats, steering wheel, shift boot, and door panels, infusing the interior with sportiness that matches the car’s performance underpinnings.
Continued Success in a Tough Market
While sedan and subcompact car sales have suffered over the years with the popularity of crossovers and SUVs, the Integra still holds a place as the leader in its class. It goes up against some of the most sought-after sport compacts on the market, providing an incredible mix of performance, luxury, and functionality.
Acura’s strategy to update the Integra while maintaining its essential charm is a good one, and wonderful to see an old-established brand still going strong.
The Future: Type S and Beyond
Acura’s devotion to the Integra is apparent, and fans are encouraged that the Type S model will remain in production. For those with an even more performance-oriented attitude, there’s always the potential of a more extreme Type R variant in the future.
With the heritage of the Integra and the prospects being bright, there’s little doubt that this legendary model will remain a representation of performance and driving passion within the automobile industry.
