2026 Nissan Tsuru: Why the Legend Isn’t Coming Back

From last month i have been going through all kinds of forums and speculative articles about return of 2026 Nissan Tsuru. Once upon a time it really dominated some markets like Mexico for decades but does it really going to come back or it is just a rumor?
Let me tell you that Nissan has officially discontinued Tsuru in May 2017 which was in market for 33-year production run and over 2.4 million sales. At that time company stated that there will be no direct replacement to this car but diverted it customer base to Versa and Tiida. As of writing this blog there is no official announcement from the Nissan about bringing back 2026 Nissan Tsuru.
2025 Nissan Sentra and the Forthcoming 2026 Redesign is True Heir to Nissan Tsuru
Yes i know Tsuru nameplate is retired but it’s spirit in terms of offering is available with 2025 Nissan Sentra. As per our research, the actual Nissan sedan generating buzz for 2026 is not a Tsuru, but a completely redesigned Sentra.
Current 2025 model of Sentra is an compact sedan having 2.0L DOHC 4-cylinder engine (not a 1.6L) producing 149 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, paired with an Xtronic CVT. This will be completely redesigned in 2026 model where we will see 2.0 L hybrid engine, 12.3 inches of screen, upgraded exterior and pricing under $25,000.

Why the “Tsuru” Name Persists (But Isn’t Returning)
Tsuru was mainly known for it’s incredible longevity and low cost of ownership. This was mainly seen in taxi vehicle in Mexico. this vehicle has deep emotion and nostalgic feeling attached with and that’s why people oftenly talk about it’s return. but modern safety, emission norms, consumer expectations has made it harder for its revival. Nissan is almost betting everything to replace it with the Nissan Sentra.
