2027 BMW X5, codenamed G65 is the next generation Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) featuring traditional mechanical engineering with modern touches.
Release Date and Production
The current G05 X5 generation will be replaced by the G65 (2027 BMW X5) whose production is started in the August 2026 at Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA.
Vehicle is expected to debut in the late 2026 while deliveries are expected to begin at late 2026 or early 2027.
Powertrain Options
The 2027 BMW X5 will offer multiple powertrain options including ICE, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) and fully electric model.
1. Internal Combustion (ICE)
It is expected to feature 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-6 similar to X5 xDrive40i for the V8 option you will get S68 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 keeping alive the V8 legacy.
2. Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV)
The PHEV variant (currently the xDrive50e) will be tuned for more power and more range. You can expect around 60-mile all electric range which will be significant improvement to the current models 40-mile electric range.
3. The First-Ever BMW iX5 (EV)
For the first time, in the 2027 BMW X5 we are expecting fully electric variant which will be sold as iX5 model. This is likely to feature 800-volt architecture potentially adding ~186 miles of range in 10 minutes.
Platform and Architecture
2027 BMW X5 will reportedly built on the current CLAR (Cluster Architecture) rather than switching to the “Neue Klasse” EV platform. CLAR offers continue offering a “Power of Choice” lineup on a single production line over gas diesel, plug in hybrid and fully electric variants.
While this will be built of the CLAR its exterior will be inspired on Neue Klasse concepts making it high performance car wit modern look.
Exterior Design
Recent spy shots reveal a “meaner” front fascia which will feature much thinner headlights and iconic kidney grille. Traditional handles are now replaced with the small “winglet” openers located at the B and C pillars making it much more similar to Ford Mustang Mach-E or Neue Klasse concepts.
Interior Technology
the 2027 BMW X5 will adopt BMW’s panoramic vision interface offering a curved display layout. you will get full Pillar-to-Pillar Screen with traditional instrument cluster. Screen is rumored to be 17.9 inches and there will be no iDrive Controller confirmed from the spy shots.
