The Arctic Thunder Air Show is biennially hosted at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER). What i am impressed with is that this is one of the largest public gathering in Alaska having more than 100,000+ spectators. Since 1990, this has been home for military demonstration teams like the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds against the dramatic backdrop of the Chugach Mountains.

Historical Legacy
Arctic Thunder Air Show was started in 1990 to improve military-civilian bonds. The inaugural 1990 event which my father explained to me was static aircraft displays and regional flight demonstrations.
It has been now inherited in the Alaskan culture now adopted as a biennial tradition (typically held in even-numbered years). Despite, 2010 tragic C-17 training accident days earlier, shown was kept on going with tribute to fallen service members.
For 2025-2026, Arctic Thunder Air Show will feature modern fighter aircrafts like F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II. Also there are NASA astronaut presentations, U.S. Army Golden Knights parachute demonstrations and youth inspirational programs.
