One of the biggest advantages of the 2025 Lexus RX Plug-In Hybrid is its smooth and tranquil driving nature. This SUV is designed to offer a hovercraft-like feel on the road, with light steering and excellent ride quality. Driving feels effortless, and the RX maintains composure even at higher speeds.
In fact, you might find yourself driving 20 mph over the speed limit without even realizing it. The overall experience is soothing and comfortable, making it an ideal choice for daily commutes and long road trips alike.
Performance and Acceleration
A slight drawback of the RX 450h+ is its engine sound during acceleration. It features a naturally aspirated 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, which can produce a somewhat coarse noise. However, compared to the 2023 RX 350h, which had a more abrasive engine sound, this model is much quieter.
Despite this minor issue, the SUV offers decent speed and power. It boasts a 0-60 mph time of about 6.2 seconds and a combined system output of 304 horsepower. While it won’t set performance records, it delivers adequate power for daily driving.
Luxury and Comfort
The RX Plug-In Hybrid maintains excellent ride quality, even with its large 21-inch wheels. While some small bumps are transmitted through the suspension, the plush seats effectively absorb them.
Speaking of seating, Lexus has truly excelled in comfort with this luxury trim level. Whether you’re driving for a short distance or a long journey, the seats ensure a fatigue-free experience.
However, seating comfort is subjective, so it’s best to test them yourself before making a decision.
Weight and Handling
One downside of the plug-in hybrid model is its weight. At approximately 4,810 lbs, it is around 500 lbs heavier than an all-wheel-drive RX 350 and about 300 lbs heavier than the RX 350h hybrid.
While this additional weight does not drastically affect handling, there is some noticeable lean in corners. Additionally, aggressive cornering results in understeer and tire squealing. However, most RX buyers are unlikely to drive aggressively, making this a minor issue.
Interior Space and Technology
The RX Plug-In Hybrid shines in terms of interior space and technology. The cabin feels solid, and the infotainment system is intuitive and user-friendly. This model comes nearly fully loaded with a massive touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and several luxury features.

At 5’10”, I can comfortably sit behind my own driving position. Getting in and out of the SUV is easy, and rear passengers benefit from heated and ventilated seats, manual sunshades, and a high-quality suede headliner. The panoramic moonroof enhances the cabin’s open and airy feel.
Trunk Space and Practicality
The trunk space in the RX Plug-In Hybrid is another major advantage. It is spacious and practical, making it easy to store luggage and groceries. However, there are two minor drawbacks.
First, folding down the second-row seats requires pressing an electronic button rather than using a manual release, which can be time-consuming. Second, this plug-in hybrid model does not include a spare tire, which may be a concern for some buyers.
Electric Range and Fuel Capacity
One of the biggest benefits of the plug-in hybrid RX is its 37-mile pure EV range. This is great for short commutes, especially if you have access to a charger. However, when considering total driving range, the plug-in hybrid model is similar to the regular hybrid version due to its smaller fuel tank.
The plug-in hybrid has a little over 14 gallons of fuel capacity, while other RX models have over 17 gallons. This means that while you get the benefit of EV driving, the overall fuel range isn’t significantly better than the traditional hybrid.
