I’ve been spending a lot of time looking into the 2027 Ford Maverick lately, and honestly, it’s a brilliant little pickup. If you’re like me and hate struggling with tight city parking but still want a real truck bed and enough room for five people, it hits the sweet spot.
But if you’re thinking about grabbing one, you have a big decision to make before you sign anything: which engine do you actually need?
Ford kept things simple for 2027 with just two options. Here is my simple breakdown of these two engine options guiding you to chose what best suite your style and requirement.
2.5L Full-Hybrid
If you hate burning cash at the petrol pump, I’d point you straight to this one. It pairs a 2.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to push out 191 horsepower. You’ll see it as the standard setup on the XL and Lariat, and you can spec it on the XLT, too.
2027 2.5L is full hybrid and uses eCVT. for those who are not understanding what it means to you let me explain in simple words. you will get more smooth acceleration and uninterrupted pull from torque.
The best part? For 2027, you can finally pair this hybrid with All-Wheel Drive (AWD). If you deal with heavy monsoon rains or slippery roads, that’s a massive upgrade.
- My take: Get this if you’re mostly commuting. If you’re stuck in stop-and-go traffic all week but still want to throw muddy mountain bikes or some gardening supplies in the back on Sunday, the hybrid is an absolute no-brainer.
Powerhouse: 2.0L EcoBoost
If you want a bit more punch when you hit the throttle, you’ll want the 2.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost. This thing steps it up to 250 horsepower and a solid 380 Nm of torque.
For 2027, Ford reserved this engine for the off-road-focused Tremor, the lowered street-sport Lobo, and the XLT AWD. It usually comes with an 8-speed automatic, but if you go for the Lobo, they swap in a snappy 7-speed for quicker, more aggressive shifts.
My take: this is the highest performance offering and go with it if you are only requirement is speed driving on highway and some dirt trails. i also recommend you to add the 4K towing package with this just for more towing capability and camping friendly gear.
