Ford has turned a new page after a challenging push towards EVs. The blue oval is returning to its roots, bringing back old fan-favorite nameplates and introducing all-new ones. Get ready for a new era of American automakers as Ford’s CEO announces six new Ford models for 2025.
Ford Ranchero
With the enormous success of the Ford Maverick, Ford decided to explore the compact pickup truck segment further. They’ve been working on an alternative compact pickup truck that will be even more affordable and interesting than the Maverick. Enter the Ford Ranchero.
The small pickup truck will share its platform with the Maverick but will be more workhorse-oriented. Instead of a crew cab, it will feature a single cab or extended cab, allowing for a bed up to 6 ft long. Since it will be cheaper to manufacture, the Ford Ranchero is expected to be notably cheaper than the Maverick, with an estimated starting price of around $220,000.
The Ranchero will likely come with both the 2.5 hybrid and the 2.0L EcoBoost engines, similar to the Maverick. However, the base model might use Ford’s 1.5L 3-cylinder engine for an even lower price.
Ford Maverick Del Lobo
The Ford Maverick has revolutionized the pickup truck segment, but it missed the opportunity for a more powerful, athletic version. For the 2025 model year, Ford is introducing the sportier Maverick Del Lobo. Unlike the off-road-oriented Raptor series, the Del Lobo will be a road-oriented pickup, essentially a hot hatch version of a pickup truck.
Under the hood, the Maverick Del Lobo is expected to feature Ford’s 2.3L EcoBoost engine, delivering between 300 and 310 horsepower. It will also receive aggressive styling upgrades, including deeper bumpers, side skirts, and larger wheels with low-profile tires. The suspension and steering will be stiffened for a sportier driving experience. Inside, the Del Lobo will have sporty half-bucket seats and a sporty steering wheel, making it a very interesting vehicle.
Ford Taurus
After a six-year hiatus, the Ford Taurus is making a comeback. America’s most popular sedan will return, but this time with a new look. The new Taurus will use a front-wheel-drive layout, essentially succeeding the Ford Fusion but being slightly larger and better built.
The Taurus has been sold in the Middle East for two years, but the US version will have a slightly different design. The front-end will be less crowded and more elegant, with a variety of interior materials and configurations. While sedans are still overshadowed by SUVs, the new Taurus aims to capture attention without a powerful EcoBoost V6 under the hood. It will be a more reserved vehicle, ideal for those transitioning from sedans to SUVs.
Ford Everest
The Ford Bronco is a capable SUV but comes with a high price tag due to its iconic design. For those who prioritize capability over design, Ford introduces the Everest. The Everest has been sold in Asia for years and will be available in the US starting in 2025, along with a minor facelift for both it and the Ford Ranger.
The Everest is almost identical to the Ranger, with the main difference being the replacement of the bed with additional interior space, offering a seven-seater layout. It will cost 10-15% less than the Bronco, making it an attractive option for those seeking a capable yet affordable SUV.
Ford Capri
Ford is determined to compete with Tesla by releasing an all-new subcompact crossover SUV that is fully electric and affordable. Enter the long-awaited Ford Capri crossover. This stylish little SUV promises to undercut its rivals with a starting price of around $20,000.
The Capri will be smaller than the Ford Escape, similar in size to the Ford Puma sold in Europe. While there may also be an internal combustion version, this has yet to be confirmed. The Capri nameplate, once used for a smaller, less expensive version of the Mustang, now returns as a stylish crossover paying homage to its heritage.
Ford Maverick Lightning
When you hear the Lightning nameplate, you might think of another overpriced EV. However, the Maverick Lightning will be a plug-in hybrid, not an EV. It will share many components with the Ford Escape PHEV, including the 2.5L naturally aspirated engine, pushing around 210 horsepower.
The Maverick Lightning will offer around 35 MPG on gas and 90 MPGe, making it extremely efficient. It will also have an estimated all-electric range of about 35 miles, ideal for city commutes.
The additional batteries may slightly cramp the cabin or bed space, but this is a small price to pay for such an incredible truck. The price is expected to be around $40,000, similar to the Lariat version.
