2027 Chevy Trax Refresh: New Tech, Lineup Changes, and Expected Price Hikes

Chevy just dropped the full packaging details for the 2027 Trax refresh, so we finally know what’s coming to this compact SUV especially that massive list of standard safety tech. They haven’t announced the official pricing yet (I’ll drop an update in a pinned comment once it’s live).

But looking at current 2026 prices and the newly added tech, I’m expecting the base price to jump by a few grand. We might even see fully loaded models cross the $30,000 mark for the first time since the Trax launched.

Key Deletions: Trims and Dropped Colors

First off, they’re trimming the fat. The base LS and the 1RS trims are gone, simplifying the lineup to just three solid options: LT, RS, and Activ. On the outside, say goodbye to Marina Blue, Cactus Green, and Cypress Gray.

Inside, the LT is losing its yellow accents. Moving forward, each trim gets its own distinct vibe: blue for the LT, red for the RS, and a new orange-and-gray two-tone finish for the Activ.

To replace the dropped colors, we get Sunrise Orange, Pacific Blue Metallic, and Lagoon.

They’ve also reorganized the option packages:

  • The LT gets a revised Comfort & Convenience Package.
  • There’s a new Power Convenience Package bundling a power liftgate and wireless charging, meaning you no longer have to buy the sunroof just to get the wireless charger.
  • The exterior gets a nice refresh with LED tail lights, active grille shutters, a shark fin antenna, black bowties, and new wheel designs for every trim (17s on the LT, 18s on the Activ, and 19s on the RS).
  • Other neat practical touches include 5G connectivity, a rear center armrest with cup holders, and updated cabin ports (two USB-Cs up front, plus a USB-A and USB-C in the back).

Expanded Standard Safety and Driver Assistance

Chevy is really packing in the safety tech this year. Every Trax now gets over 20 standard driver-assist features. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Zone Steering Assist, and enhanced automatic braking that spots pedestrians and cyclists. You also get rear cross-traffic braking, parking sensors all around, and the vibrating Safety Alert seat.

Inside, an 11-inch digital gauge cluster and an 11-inch touchscreen with built-in Google are now standard across the board. One controversial change, though: a tire inflator kit is now standard, meaning an actual spare tire is an extra-cost option on all trims.

Trim-by-Trim Changes

  • LT: Gains rear AC vents, the digital displays, and LED tail lights. However, it loses the Midnight Edition option, and roof rails, the cargo cover, and the spare tire are now optional extras.
  • RS: Picks up the new screens, rear vents, and tail lights, but loses the standard spare tire.
  • Activ: Gets the same tech and comfort upgrades as the RS, but loses the front passenger map pocket and the spare tire.

Exterior Color Availability by Trim

Paint choices are a bit more locked into specific trims now:

  • Apex Red: Now exclusive to the RS.
  • Pacific Blue Metallic: Only available on the LT and RS.
  • White Sands: Reserved for the RS and Activ.
  • Summit White, Mosaic Black, Sunrise Orange, Lagoon, and Sterling Gray Metallic remain available across the board.

Pricing Analysis and Expected Increases

Pricing is the big question mark. Last year, destination charges alone went up to $1,795. The 2026 LS started at $23,495, but with that trim gone, the LT becomes the new entry-level model. Thanks to all the new standard tech, it’s safe to assume the base LT will start over $25,000, while the RS and Activ will likely base around $28,000.

Conclusion

In the mid-$20k range, the Trax is still a fantastic, practical deal. But once it hits $30,000, the value proposition gets a little shaky. It’s still strictly front-wheel-drive and keeps the same 1.2L turbocharged 3-cylinder engine.

At that price point, it makes sense to cross-shop it with the refreshed Chevy Trailblazer, which offers available all-wheel drive and a slightly punchier 1.3L engine option. These are still being built in South Korea, so expect them to hit dealership lots around the spring.
