The revolutionary mid-engine Corvette is about to take an exciting giant leap. For the 2027 model year, Chevrolet is reportedly making a big mechanical change to one of the most important cars in the line-up. Chevrolet is getting rid of the long-surviving 6.2L LT2 engine of the C8, and adding a new engine altogether.
In my opinion, the base model 2027 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has raised its game to become more than just an everyday sports car, but rather a force to compete with the supercars in the naturally aspirated realm.
Powertrain & Performance
The 2027 Stingray’s headline is totally located under the rear glass, and that’s spot on for me. Chevrolet brings in the next-gen 6.7-liter LS6 small-block V8 as the primary engine standard in their base model line up. Chevrolet actually got most of us excited by increasing the piston stroke to 100 millimeters and bringing total displacement to the iconic 409 cubic inches. As far as the standard performance ticks, I’d say the changes are massive:
- Horsepower: 535 hp
- Torque: 520 lb-ft (up from 470 lb-ft)
- Compression Ratio: 13.0:1
To improve performance, the LS6 uses high-speed intake ports and a 95mm throttle body, a continuously variable oil pump to keep pressure during high-G turns and forged internals to handle extreme 13.0:1 cylinder pressure combustion.
While the powertrain remains unchanged, performance specs improve a standard 2027 Stingray, with the track-ready Z51 package, cleared the 0-60 mph run in less than 2.8 seconds. A big factor of this increased tim was the new 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
I’ve always thought that Magnetic Ride Control adaptive dampers deserve the high praise and with the new software revision, they can now control high-speed body movements even better. Buyers of the Z51 Performance Package get even more configd control over their suspension. The 2027 Z51 also has a new 5.56:1 final drive ratio that does throttle control that goes even further. It now has updated aerodynamics, and Michelin Pilot Sport S 5 tires.
Interior Design
While the powertrain undergoes a complete evolutionary shift, the driver-centric “fighter jet cockpit” interior layout carries over, and I was expecting some critical technological expansions to match the new engine. The cabin retains its signature tall separating bridge of climate controls but upgrades the overall screen real estate:
- Primary Infotainment: An updated 12.7-inch diagonal central touchscreen, heavily angled toward the driver’s sightline.
- Driver Information Center: An expanded 14-inch digital instrument cluster displaying telemetry, oil pressure variables, and track lap times.
- Auxiliary Display: A new 6.6-inch auxiliary control touchscreen for secondary system shortcuts.
- Connectivity: Google built-in compatibility, wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a standard wireless console charging pad across all trims.
2027 Corvette Lineup Price & Variant Hierarchy
Production could start on June 8, 2026, and dealerships are accepting orders. The starting price for the base Stingray is a welcome surprise for me at an increase of only $1,000.
The base Stingray also reshapes the rest of the lineup. For example, the E-Ray is gone and in its place is the Grand Sport X, which has the new 6.7L LS6 engine paired to an electrified all-wheel-drive front axle to make 721 horsepower.
| Trim Level | 2027 Base MSRP | Powertrain / Key Distinctions |
|---|---|---|
| Stingray | $73,495 | 6.7L LS6 V8 (535 hp), RWD, Sculpted Standard Body |
| Grand Sport | $88,495 | 6.7L LS6 V8 (535 hp), RWD, Widebody Z06 Chassis |
| Grand Sport X | $112,195 | 6.7L Hybrid eAWD (721 hp), Widebody, Carbon Ceramics |
| Z06 | $121,395 | 5.5L LT6 Flat-Plane Crank V8 (670 hp), 8,600 RPM Redline |
| ZR1 | $197,195 | 5.5L Twin-Turbo LT7 V8 (1,064 hp) |
| ZR1X | $227,395 | 5.5L Twin-Turbo Hybrid eAWD (1,250 hp) |
The 2027 order guides tease two high-demand exterior paint options with Admiral Blue Metallic and Pitch Gray Metallic, plus I see custom carbon-fiber ground effect packages will be closely limited for early production cycles.
I believe, by morphing with the displacement of modern supercars, the 2027 Corvette Stingray still respects the pushrod V8, still the best performance value in the world.
