Exclusive Sneak Peak at Specs of 2025 GMC Sierra EV

GMC has set the bar high with its all-new 2025 Sierra EV Denali Edition One, claiming it’s not just the best electric pickup truck on the market, but the best pickup truck, period. But does it really live up to this bold statement? In this blog post, we’re diving deep into its real-world performance, highlighting everything from power and towing capacity to interior comfort and unique features like the crab walk mode. Buckle up as we put the 2025 Sierra EV Denali Edition One to the test!

Stunning New Features and Exterior Design

Let’s start with the looks—because this truck certainly makes a statement. At launch, the 2025 Sierra EV Denali Edition One is available exclusively in a sleek Thunderstorm Gray color, complete with special edition badging. For those waiting for more color options, the 2025 Denali lineup will expand the palette.

Under the hood (or rather, under the floor), this truck boasts a dual-motor configuration. With one electric motor on each axle, it delivers a whopping 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque in maximum power mode. That’s some serious muscle for an electric vehicle! The truck sits on distinctive 24-inch wheels, a design unique to this model, and features Michelin tires sized at 275/50 R24—nearly 35 inches tall.

While these tires aren’t the widest, they strike a balance between style and performance. However, take note: the Sierra EV Denali Edition One does not come with a spare tire. Instead, you’ll find a tire inflator kit and a compact compressor neatly stored in the front trunk (or “frunk”).

Beyond power and style, the truck is built for work. It offers a payload capacity of 1,500 pounds and a maximum towing capability of 10,000 pounds. The frunk provides 11 cubic feet of storage space—ample, though not class-leading—and includes a power inverter with a 2.4 kW output up front and a total power capacity of 10.2 kW, including outlets in the truck bed. The 12-volt battery, washer fluid space, and ULM charger cable included with the truck are conveniently located for easy access.

Luxurious Interior and Innovative Features

The 2025 GMC Sierra EV doesn’t just pack power—it also comes loaded with luxurious and modern interior features. At the center of the dashboard is a massive 16.8-inch infotainment screen, complemented by an 11-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14-inch heads-up display. The choice of materials, including open-pore wood and fine metal accents, combined with high-quality stitching, brings a level of sophistication you might not expect in a pickup truck.

The seats are another highlight, offering exceptional comfort. In fact, these seats are some of the most comfortable I’ve ever experienced in any truck. The rear seat space is particularly generous—I’m 6’3″, and even when sitting behind myself, it feels like I’m in a luxury limousine!

One of the coolest features of the Sierra EV is the midgate, which adds versatility to its cargo capacity. The midgate allows you to extend the bed’s length while still seating three passengers comfortably. With the tailgate closed, the truck bed measures 8 feet, but if you open the tailgate, you can accommodate even longer items.

Towing Capability

To test the towing capability, we hooked up a 24-foot-long trailer weighing around 8,000 pounds to the Sierra Denali Edition One. The truck’s towing app on the large infotainment screen lets you adjust the gain, monitor the combined gross weight, and perform light tests. While the app doesn’t show energy efficiency directly while towing, you can access this information through the Energy Assist app.

In Tow mode, the Sierra EV offers increased power, though not at the maximum 754 horsepower. There’s a separate mode for that—the so-called “Thor’s Hammer” mode. Even in Tow mode, the truck feels powerful and capable, easily handling the weight behind it.

Four-Wheel Steering and Crab Walk

Now, let’s talk about the 2025 Sierra EV’s unique features—four-wheel steering and the crab walk mode. With rear steering disabled, turning the truck requires more space and feels less agile. However, with rear steering enabled, the turning radius is significantly reduced, making the truck far easier to maneuver in tight spaces—a huge benefit for parking, daily driving, and towing.

And then there’s the crab walk mode. This feature is more than just a cool party trick; it’s genuinely effective in navigating tricky terrains or tight parking spaces. It’s little touches like these that make the Sierra EV Denali Edition One stand out from the crowd.

Real-World Driving: 0-60 MPH Acceleration

Let’s talk speed. I had the opportunity to test the 0 to 60 mph acceleration in two different modes. In Normal mode (without activating the “Thor’s Hammer”), the Sierra EV clocked in at 5.9 seconds. When switched to the sportiest mode, the acceleration improved to an impressive 4.33 seconds. For a truck of this size, weighing as much as it does, that’s an incredible achievement.

Daily Driving and Comfort

Driving the 2025 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition One in everyday settings is a joy, thanks to its adjustable driving modes. You can set the steering, suspension, and acceleration feel to match your preferences—be it for comfort or a sportier experience.

The truck also features one-pedal driving, allowing you to recover energy with regenerative braking, which is particularly useful in stop-and-go traffic.

The cabin comfort is top-notch, with seats that feel more cushioned than those in any previous Sierra 1500 models. GMC has also used more acoustic glass throughout the truck, making it one of the quieter vehicles in its class—essential for a luxury truck experience.

Verdict and Price

Now, you’re probably wondering about the price and availability. The 2025 Denali Edition One is available now for those who made reservations a few years back. The price is just over $99,000, or about $100,000. It’s not cheap, but considering all the features and capabilities, it’s a compelling package.

As for whether it’s the best truck ever, I think I need more time with it to answer that definitively. I haven’t done a full range test or towed in the mountains of Colorado yet. But so far, it’s off to a fantastic start. Stay tuned for more updates, and I’ll see you next time.
