Sportage Facelift Hybrid Test Drive

The hybrid model offers a quiet, serene cabin environment. When the car is idling, there’s no engine running, essentially making it an EV at low speeds. The dual-laminated acoustic glass on the first row significantly reduces outside noise, although the second row lacks this feature.

During my test drive, I noticed that the hybrid model provides a smoother and quieter ride compared to the gasoline model. The hybrid utilizes the motor to its maximum potential to yield the best MPG while offering superior driving pleasure. The Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) with dual 12.3-inch monitors enhances the overall driving experience.

I clocked 15 km/L with the gasoline model, but during my hybrid test drive, I saw a reading of 11.7 km/L over 236 kilometers. Keep in mind that vehicle that have used was a test drive vehicle, meaning different drivers may have impacted its efficiency.

The fuel efficiency of the hybrid model will likely improve as I continue driving. However, the gasoline model put up a great fight, achieving impressive fuel economy numbers. On one occasion, I saw 15.9 km/L with the gasoline model before testing its performance.

Hybrid technology has advanced rapidly, and the 2026 Sportage hybrid showcases significant improvements. For the first time, the Sportage facelift includes an eight-speed automatic transmission, replacing the previous DCT setup.

Hybrid Advantages on the Road

The hybrid model excels on bumpy roads, thanks to its motor’s ability to control the vehicle’s pitching motion. This feature enhances the ride comfort inside the cabin. Switching between drive modes—Eco, Sport, and My Drive—lets you customize your driving experience.

In Baby Mode, the car adjusts its suspension for a more comfortable ride over uneven surfaces. I highly recommend trying this mode for the ultimate hybrid experience.

Switching to Sport Mode transforms the driving experience. The hybrid model responds instantly with motor assistance, offering a pleasant push from a complete stop. Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA2) further enhances the driving experience, especially in congested areas.

Unlike the gasoline model, the hybrid doesn’t struggle with gear shifts in stop-and-go traffic. The motor provides consistent, undisturbed movement, making the hybrid more refined in city driving.

Regenerative Braking

The hybrid model features paddle shifters that control the regenerative braking system. In Eco mode, the paddles adjust the regen brake level, while in Sport mode, they function as traditional gear shifters.

When I adjusted the regen brake to its maximum strength, I noticed the system actively charging the battery. While the hybrid’s regen braking isn’t as strong as that of fully electric vehicles like the Ioniq 5 or EV6, it provides a noticeable benefit.

Interior Features & Comfort

Both models share a similar interior design, with a few hybrid-specific elements. The ccNC system supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Krell premium sound system and dual-laminated acoustic glass enhance the cabin’s luxury feel.

The second-row seats offer impressive recline adjustments, a feature that’s rare in SUVs. The fully automated rear trunk adds convenience, and the Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) feature allows you to control the vehicle remotely using the key fob.

Real-World Fuel Efficiency

During my test drive, the hybrid’s fuel efficiency steadily improved. I managed to achieve 11.4 km/L, and I’m confident it will reach higher numbers. The gasoline model, on the other hand, consistently impressed with its fuel economy, achieving numbers as high as 15 km/L.

One significant difference between the two models is the ride comfort. The hybrid model feels like it’s equipped with Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS), thanks to its Baby Mode. The gasoline model’s ride is slightly harsher in comparison.

When driving in Sport Mode, the gasoline model focuses on finding the perfect gear ratio for maximum performance. The hybrid, however, benefits from the motor’s instant torque, making acceleration smoother and more responsive.

Lane Change Assist & Safety Features

Both models come equipped with Lane Change Assist, which automatically changes lanes when you use the turn signal. This feature works seamlessly on highways, enhancing the overall driving experience.
