I am impressed with Toyota CH-R+ (New EV Launch)

Yesterday, it was its world premium of new fully electric Toyota C-HR+ on a fresh platform. Team dal-motors was lucky enough to have a look at this vehicle from inside to out. Following is review of this vehicle from first hand experience.

Sharp and Sporty Exterior Design

Front end looks impressive with sporty lower grille with a honeycomb-dot pattern that gives nice aggressive look. Size-wise, the CH-R+ is 4.52 meters (178 inches) in length, smaller than Toyota bZ4X, but larger than the recently revealed Urban Cruiser.

You guys must be wondering why named it as CH-R then let me tell you that it means Coupé High Rider, which represent different class of crossover Coupé.

Powertrain Options and Performance

One thing i particularly like about Toyota CH-R Plus is that it offers a range of configurations for different driving needs:

  • Battery Options:
  • 58 kWh battery (gross capacity) for front-wheel drive models.
  • 77 kWh battery (gross capacity), available for both front-wheel and all-wheel drive versions.

Performance:

Overall, Toyota CH-R+ has top speed of 160 km/h (100 mph) and produces impressive 343 horsepower. Company claimed 100 km/h (0–62 mph) in just 5.2 seconds. which is impressive considering an EV.

Interior Highlights

Toyota CH-R+ offers best in class interior, i personally find its cabin very much futuristic and advance. Dashboard design gives premium feel thanks to its textured materials. Presence of ambient lighting and massive 14 inch touchscreen further enhances premium look of cabin.

Touchscreen placed at center dominates the console, features route-based charging planning and battery preconditioning which i personally feel very practical and impressive.

  • Seating: The seats are upholstered in a microfiber fabric mix, offering comfort and style. Taller drivers (up to 6’2″ or 1.89 meters) will appreciate the adequate headroom and legroom in the front, although the rear seating is more limited.

The interior also includes practical touches like adaptive cup holders, dual inductive charging pads (though unventilated), and a fixed glass roof with a sunshade for those hot summer days.

Charging and Range

Charging capabilities are nowadays most important things in EV, the Toyota CH-R+ offers excellent charging and range:

  • AC Charging: Up to 11 kW or 22 kW depending on the trim.
  • DC Fast Charging: Up to 150 kW, allowing a 10–80% charge in approximately 30 minutes.

Overall, i am impressed with charging time and batter pack of Toyota CH-R+ but somewhere felt that not competitive with other EVs in its class, like the Tesla Model Y. Still, Toyota’s focus here is on providing a reliable and practical EV for a wide range of customers.

Practicality and Cargo Space

Practicality and Cargo Space
Practicality and Cargo Space

Lets talk about Practicality and Cargo Space, as a 6 ft tall i felt extremely comfortable at back but i think there is less thigh support which might be uncomfortable on long drives. Measurements include:

  • Length: ~90 cm (~37 inches).
  • Width: 1 meter (40 inches).
  • Height: Slightly adjustable depending on the final production model.

For those needing more rear legroom and overall space, i will recommend you Toyota bZ4X.

Who Is the CH-R+ For?

Toyota’s goal with the CH-R Plus is clear: to provide an EV option in every segment, giving customers the freedom to choose what suits their lifestyle best.

It is smaller than bZ4X but larger and more premium than the Urban Cruiser. So, if you are someone who wants compact Coupe style crossover with premium features and electric motor then CH-R+ is best choice for you.
