This is Why 2025 GR Corolla is Much Faster

The 2025 GR Corolla just got a little bit quicker, and I’m going to explain why it’s quicker. We’re going to discuss about the different things, especially the new direct automatic transmission. There are some suspension changes, and we’re going to briefly touch on the different trim packages as well.

New Direct Automatic Transmission

One of the most notable updates in the 2025 GR Corolla is the introduction of a direct automatic transmission. Previously, the GR Corolla was available only with a manual transmission, but now it offers an advanced automatic option. This new transmission is specifically developed for this model and operates differently compared to other automatic transmissions like those found in the Supra and GR86.

In contrast to traditional automatic transmissions that respond to vehicle actions such as acceleration, braking, and yaw, the GR Corolla’s new transmission includes predictive inputs from the brakes and accelerator. This allows the system to anticipate the driver’s actions, making adjustments in real-time. For instance, when approaching a corner, the transmission will preemptively downshift, enabling smoother power delivery and better corner exit performance.

Enhanced Engine Performance

The 2025 GR Corolla also benefits from an engine upgrade. The torque has increased from 273 lb-ft to 295 lb-ft, matching the Marizo Edition’s specifications from 2022. Despite the increase, the engine remains a 1.6L three-cylinder, delivering 300 horsepower and maintaining its distinctive, unique sound. This enhancement contributes significantly to the vehicle’s improved acceleration and overall performance.

Suspension Improvements

In addition to the transmission and engine upgrades, the suspension system has seen substantial improvements. Engineers have introduced a rebound spring designed to reduce wheel hop, a common issue under tough driving conditions. This enhancement helps keep the wheels on the ground, improving traction and allowing for more effective power application during acceleration and cornering.

The rear suspension has received further modifications, including a revised trailing arm mount point. This change aims to boost grip and enhance the vehicle’s ability to put power down effectively, especially when exiting corners. Overall, these suspension tweaks are geared towards better handling and performance.

Torsen Limited-Slip Differential

A significant addition to the 2025 GR Corolla is the standard Torsen limited-slip differential, now included both front and rear across all trim levels. This feature improves overall performance by enhancing traction and stability.

Aftermarket Enhancements

For those interested in customizing their GR Corolla, the 2025 model offers new possibilities. The redesigned front nose includes better brake cooling and a more open grille, making it easier to add aftermarket components such as additional radiators or intercoolers. This design caters to enthusiasts who like to modify their vehicles for enhanced performance.

Interior and Trim Levels

Inside, the 2025 GR Corolla maintains a familiar layout but with some updates. The premium plus version features the GR logo, high-quality seats with suede inserts, and a direct transmission shifter. The mode selector now includes a gravel mode, adding versatility to driving conditions.

The GR Corolla is available in three trim levels: Core, Premium, and Premium Plus. The Core grade includes fabric seats and 18-inch cast alloy wheels.

The Premium grade adds features like JBL audio, suede leather trim seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and parking sensors. The Premium Plus trim includes additional features such as a carbon fiber roof, a vented hood, and satin-look wheels.

Stay tuned for more updates as the launch date approaches, and get ready to experience the latest in GR Corolla performance.
