The headline story for the 2026 Ford Everest is the major restructuring of its trim levels and entry-level engines.

  • Axing the Mid-Tier Favorites: Ford has officially deleted the entry-level Ambiente and second-tier Trend grades. In their place we get a new Active variant, which takes over as the official entry point into the Everest family. Higher trims like, the Wildtrak and Black Edition grades have also been pruned from certain regions to simplify the buyer’s journey.
  • Goodbye to the 2.0L Bi-Turbo: In a twist that surprised Ford fans, they have decided to discontinued the 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine which powered most of the mid-level models.

But on the flip side, the base Active model gets an improved version of Ford’s 2.0-liter single-turbo (SiT) four-cylinder diesel engine. Ford replaced the old wet timing belt with a robust timing chain. So, instead of the wet timing belt, you get improved long term durability.

Updated Powertrain

The 2026 Everest focuses on two strong, adaptable engines globally, and adds a new petrol option in some international markets.

EnginePowerTorque
2.0L Single-Turbo Diesel (4-cyl)125 kW (approx. 168 hp)405 Nm
3.0L Turbo-Diesel V6184 kW (approx. 247 hp)600 Nm
2.3L EcoBoost Petrol (4-cyl)222 kW (approx. 298 hp)452 Nm

Active (New Base Model)

At $58,990(AUD before on-road costs), the Active offers standard luxurious features like the basic cloth seats in the old entry models have been replaced with leather-accented upholstery. It also has 18-inch alloy wheels, a 12-inch portrait touchscreen, and a wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and an 8-speaker audio system. Best part is all of these features are standard.

Sport

The Sport trim level adds more premium features. With this trim you will gets 20” alloy wheels, heated and cooled seats, a 360 camera, and a default 7 seat configuration for the added 3rd row.

The biggest change in this trim, however, is for buyers who want more performance. The Sport trim adds the muscular 3.0L V6 turbo-diesel with flexible permanent 4WD.

Tremor (The Off-Road Warrior)

If you want a wild 4×4 truck that has a factory build, the 2026 Everest Tremor is a fantastic option. Positioned just above the Sport, it is an extreme truck that is off-road ready.

Platinum Flagship

This trim level offers an ultra-luxury interior with the presence of a high-end European cruiser. Exclusive features offered here are 21-inch alloy wheels, a premium 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system, Panoramic sunroof, quilted leather upholstery and rear seat heating, along with a 12.4-inch digital driver dashboard.

Practicality, Towing, and Safety

Because the Everest is built on the same global Ford Ranger platform, it has some structural toughness and rigidity that crossover unibody structures lack.

Yes, the Everest has truck roots meaning that the ride can be firm over minor road imperfections, it is more than capable of doing long stretches of road. It has more towing capacity than the Toyota Prado which is 731kg.

Safety Features

The 2026 Everest maintains its 5-star ANCAP safety rating and comes with Active Safety features. The safety suite contains:

  • Blind-spot assist (with trailer coverage)
  • Evasive steer assist
  • Lane-keep assist
  • Reverse brake assist with front and rear parking sensors

Note: Ford has taken out automated Park Assist 2.0 permanently, meaning even with the 2026 Ford Everest’s high-resolution 360-degree cameras, you’ll be doing the work to squeeze your car into tight spaces yourself.

The 2026 Ford Everest has low-spec commercial trims and sheds its former self to embrace its new identity: A premium, family adventuring capable vehicle. Whether you’re choosing the more affordable Active or the more trail-ready and rugged Tremor, it continues to be the vehicle for families who need a school run car that goes beyond the suburbs.
