Why I Think the 2027 Bronco Filson Edition is Worth the Hype (and the Premium Price)

The buzz in the auto industry is justified. Ford has confirmed they are moving ahead to launch the 2027 Ford Bronco Filson Edition in partnership with Filson, an outdoor outfitter for luxury camping gear company. They will become the first partnership to build the luxury Ford Bronco camp trailers.

Taking a cue from the Ford camp, we were almost afraid to mark the Filson tents camp’s arrival on our calendar. Ford and Filson chose to email select customers and give a sneak peak of the tent on May 15th that will drop live on June 3. No mention of a limited run camp edition.

Expected to arrive in your nearest dealerships early 2027, the Filson tents will elevate Ford’s offering of premium and rugged utility vehicles. These are for the outdoor enthusiasts who think other luxury camping gear is too fragile and offers little craftsmanship.

Reality of 2027 Ford Bronco Filson Rumors

You need to see where this was coming from in late 2020 to see why I’m hyped for this with the 2027 model. I remember when Ford worked with the Seattle company to make the Bronco × Filson Wildland Fire Rig. This one-of-a-kind design packed in a Forest Service Green scheme to haul a water tank and custom axes.

I don’t expect the 2027 production SUV to have a fire hose in it. But it’s all based on the same idea. Dave Rivers, the head of all Ford’s enthusiast brands, said this production model was made in response to customer demand for a tough, affordable, elegant interior, designed to be “used and abused” and cleaned up easily. This encapsulates what the Bronco is pretty well to me.

Exterior Design

I took a close look at the singular official teaser image Ford has made public for the SUV. The SUV is in the image in a metallic earthy-green with a large, co-branded spare tire cover with Bronco and Filson.

There is a contrast between the upcoming 2027 Bronco RTR off-road packages, which I believe will go after the same more aggressive customer as the Bronco RTR off-road, which I believe will go after the same customer. The Filson Edition will be quite the opposite and go after function as opposed to just flash. I really appreciate a neat, minimalist styling, and I think the Filson Edition will look great with Filson’s classic color schemes of:

  • Otter Green (I think will be the key color)
  • Tan/Khaki
  • Navy accents
  • Matte Black or Dark Anodized Hardware

Interior Design

For me, the biggest selling point of the Filson Bronco is the cabin. There’s definitely an upper trim level Bronco cabin style that utilizes more marine grade vinyl or leather. What I’m considering the Filson Edition, is more like what you’d find with a luxury Land Rover Defender, but with more of a rugged 4×4 Bronco feel. I’m expecting the cabin to have soft touch areas and high quality unique seats that are heavy duty.

I really hope the Filson legends of tin cloth (waxed cotton) and the plaid will be true and they incorporate it into seat fabric and surface accent paneling. Since it is a Bronco that can open-roof, they will need to find a way to make these fabrics and surfaces remain highly resistant to the elements, and I would love to see how they handle the mud, UV’s, and moisture while aging into a unique patina.

Mechanical Foundations

We’re probably not going to see a bunch of new parts or a funky engine for this lifestyle version of the vehicle. I’m assuming the Filson Edition will likely use the Outer Banks trim with the Sasquatch Package. This is a good approach since the Outer Banks trim does give the vehicle some of these new features:

  • A 2.7L EcoBoost V6.
  • 35 inch mud-terrain tires with beadlock-capable wheels.
  • High suspension with position sensitive Bilstein shocks.
  • Electronic locks for the front and rear differentials.

Market & Pricing Expectations

I’m here for the trend of specializing premiums by including branded filson like workwear and outdoor heritage clothing for the 2027 Bronco and beyond. This is a great example for emerging markets, and all I can do is appreciate it when there are motor companies (like fords) that launch limited editions to the public like the Carhartt edition ford super duty.

Only a single jacket that is waxed by hand for Filson can cost anywhere upwards or beyond $350, and since its heavy duty work clothing, thats the price people pay for them, so I predict an equally premium price from these new broncos, and of course im not complaining because I expect it.

There is a large price jump between Ford bronco heritage edition, which is a basic model starting at $53,600 and the better broncos including the Stroppe Edition which is about $72,000, there is a gap in the Filson Edition and I’m here predicting the bronco is going to cost about anywhere from $62,000 to $67,000, when it comes straight to the market.
