There are rumors of 2028 Chevrolet Camaro is coming back. but how true are they? lets find out.
Reports have also suggested the Camaro will be a more modern muscle car, with improved usability in everyday life, styling, and technology. With the upcoming Camaro, Chevrolet looks to compete with the Ford Mustang/Dodge Charger in the muscle car segment and other competitors such as the Nissan Z and BMW’s M2.
Engine & Performance
The 2028 Camaro will have multiple engine options. The base model will probably use Chevy’s 2.7L turbo inline 4 engine, the same engine used in some GM trucks and performance cars.
This engine is designed to produce 310 hp and make impressive torque of 430 lb-ft. Chevrolet may pair this engine to a 10-speed automatic transmission as well as RWD to make the Camaro have performance comparable to a traditional V8 muscle car, but with better gas mileage.
The biggest news for muscle car and Camaro fans is the return of naturally aspirated V8s. There are rumors of a new 6.7L small block V8 being used in the high performance Camaros.
This engine would make about 535 hp and make over 520 lb-ft of torque, putting the Camaro in contention for one of the most powerful naturally aspirated muscle cars. Additionally, a return of manual transmission is a certainty, to round out the most enthusiast-friendly muscle car.
0-60 Time
One company that consistently builds high performing vehicles is Chevy and we expect that to remain with the new generation of the Camaro. Chevys early estimations of the base model is 0-60 in 5 seconds. For the V8 models, an astonishing 0-60 in 3.5 seconds.
Something that we are also expecting from Chevy is the use of the GM Alpha platform. Previously, that platform used to build all of the high performance models of Cadillac.
Exterior Design
The 2028 Camaro exterior design is set to change drastically, but anticipated to keep some Camaro design cues with the recognizability. Based on the industry renderings, the new design may have a wider stance, slimmer LED headlights, a sharp front fascia, muscular rear haunches, and a fastback styled, sleek roof.
Chevy may also implement faster aerodynamics with active aerodynamics, larger front-end vents, and newer body design to match the newer C8 Corvettes.
Some reports even suggest Chevy may try to sell both a traditional two-door coupe, and potentially, a four-door to create a larger demographic for buyers.
Interior Design
The 2028 Camaro is expected to receive a big tech update. The last generation of the Camaro had poor visibility and an antiquated design, and Chevy will focus driving comfort and practicality of the design layouts.
We will be seeing a digital dashboard, infotainment touchscreens, wired and wireless Carplay and Android Auto, Bose audio, ambient lighting, HUD and Performance telemetry.
Higher end trims will also receive leather and Alcantara upholstery as well as climate control, heated, and cushions with additional drivers assist features.
Pricing
As of now, we don’t know the official pricing for 2028 Camaros. Experts estimate that the base turbo model could fall anywhere between $37,000 and $40,000.
V8 SS models could fall around that $50,000 mark, while performance and equipment upgrades for ZL1 or Z28 models could bring them to $70,000 or higher. The Camaro is priced to compete with performance cars, but will remain more affordable than the Corvette.
Competitors
Competitively speaking, the Chevy Camaro 2028 gets the most tough competition from Ford Mustang. Because the Ford Mustang is the only, currently available, ‘traditional American muscle coupe’.
In addition to Ford, competition is expected from the Dodge Championship, Nissan Z, Toyota Supra, and premium sports coupes like the BMW M2.
