2027 Ferrari SF-100 – What’s coming and what’ not

The buzz about the 2027 Ferrari SF-100 got me, too. But, in unlike with many rumors, I wanted to see for myself what this car really was. I’ve realized that much of the online buzz create speculation, hype, etc. about what this car actually is – and what it isn’t. So let’s clear the air.

As it stands, there are no official announcement by the Ferrari as an official announcement for a car actually named the “SF-100” that will ever be produced. From what I have seen, how the automotive division is calling ‘SF-100,’ is either an incredibly over the top “Hyper-SUV” concept or a nod to the epic engagements by Ferrari in the Defenses and Offense for the 2027 Formula 1 Regulation changes.

So here is what I actually think is going on with the SF-100 speculation and what I am actually looking forward to from Ferrari.

What i think about 2027 Ferrari SF-100?

You’ve probably seen the amazing viral sf-100 renderings. I think the digital artists are dreaming the right dream. I see sf-100 as Ferrari’s next iteration after the Purosangue; perhaps they envision a track-capable, hyper-SUV that is meant to destroy the Urus Performante and its ilk?

Here’s some of what people like me hope to see and enjoy in the ‘fantasy machine’:

  • F1-Derived Aero: An SUV with an enormous S-Duct at the front and with variable geometry wings at the back sounds phenomenal. It feels less like a family car and more like a spacecraft.
  • A 1,000+ HP Hybrid Heart: Rumors suggest that, instead of the Purosangue’s flagship V12, this would use the SF90 Stradale’s architecture of a bi-turbo V8 of a tri-motor plug-in hybrid system with a power output that exceeds the 1,000 HP mark.
  • Sci-Fi Tech: While I’m a bit of a traditionalist with how far I’m willing to let AI and computers go with the design of sports cars, the idea shows a smart cockpit that can alter the ride to suit the track and the players on it using a shift in torque and suspension.

F1 Drama

Where the “SF” (Scuderia Ferrari) name actually matters right now is on the racetrack. I’ve been tracking their engineering updates, and Ferrari is deep in a high-stakes development war for their 2027 F1 power unit.

I think it’s interesting that Ferrari is facing this “Small Turbo” issue:

  1. Their Old Strategy: Ferrari opted for a smaller turbo to reduce turbo lag so drivers could have a stronger small corner throttle response.
  2. The 2027 Issue: With the anticipated 2027 regulations moving the balance to the internal combustion engine and allocating more power to it (i.e. 612 hp), this small turbo may start to constrain the engine during higher speed runs.

From what I understand, Ferrari engineers are working like crazy to redesign their connecting rods and adopt a new dynamic compression approach.

What i am really expecting from Ferrari?

I’d probably be just as excited for the Ferrari models coming out soon, regardless of the SF-100’s status as confirmed or not. Maranello has more of a major change in direction, and the other models are definitely coming.

As the new Roma with a front-mid engine, the V8 is going to be packing a jaw dropping 631 hp. Apparently, they are also thinking of sending back the good old steering wheels that have the buttons on the side, and that is a big plus on my list.

The Luce is going to be a much more polarizing model. As Ferrari’s first 100% electric Car, they also brought on the hit designer from a certain team, Jony Ive, from the HUGE Company called Apple. The design focuses on ‘silent energy’ as a theme. As a huge Ferrari fan, I am so excited to see if they remain true to form with electric.
